Lampang, Thailand
December 2024
As someone who’s been visiting Chiang Mai often since I was young, I’d never been to Lampang before. This was my first time, and I found it to be very lovely, even though it was a short trip. The city feels small-scale in the best way. There’s the river, the park, the city centre, and the railway, and everything is easy to navigate. They’ve done a great job maintaining the cultural sites, especially the old colonial houses, some of which are over a hundred years old. The city museum was surprisingly well done, offering a clear explanation of the town’s history. It’s a city of carriages, so seeing a horse casually eating grass on the sidewalk is absolutely normal. The morning market was nice, too. With it being winter, the cold weather made it even more enjoyable.
